Status: The last completed recruitment drive was the 2025 intake (advert issued 14 September 2025; shortlists released 21–24 October 2025; interviews held November–December 2025). As of 13 September 2026, the Ministry of Defence has not published an advert for a new 2026 recruitment exercise. Envanter Media checks mod.go.ke and updates this page as soon as that changes.

There is no separate “Kenya Navy recruitment” process – the Navy recruits jointly with the Kenya Army and Kenya Air Force under a single Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) exercise. No new intake has been announced for 2026; the last cycle ran September 2025-August 2026 (training included). Requirements and application steps are identical to the wider KDF process, with a few Navy-specific technical specialisations.

Kenya Navy Recruitment Is a KDF-Wide Process

Like the Army and Air Force, the Kenya Navy does not run an independent recruitment drive or portal. General Duty Recruits and Defence Forces Constables are recruited by joint teams from all three services at the same itinerant centres nationwide. Officer and specialist categories – GSO Cadets, Specialist Officers, and roles such as Nautical Science, Marine/Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering – apply through the single online portal at recruit.mod.go.ke. Branch assignment to the Navy happens during training and posting, not at application.

Navy-Relevant Specialist and Tradesmen Categories

Specialist Officer – Engineers: Bachelor’s degree in Nautical Science, Marine/Naval Architecture, Architecture or Civil/Structural Engineering.
Tradesmen/Women – Diploma track: includes Marine Engineering Technology (Shipwright), Marine Engineering, and Hydrographic Surveying among eligible diplomas.
General Duty Recruits: the standard minimum mean grade D (plain) in KCSE, aged 18-26, applies across all three services.

Training

General Duty Recruits complete the standard 7-month Basic Military Training before service-specific posting. See KDF Training for what that involves.

How to Apply

Follow the same steps as any KDF category: confirm the advert on mod.go.ke, prepare your documents, and either apply online (officer/specialist/tradesmen categories) or attend your county’s recruitment centre (General Duty Recruits). Full walkthrough: How to Apply for KDF Recruitment.

KDF recruitment is completely free. The Ministry of Defence states that no applicant is required to pay anyone, at any stage, to secure a recruitment slot.
