Status: The last completed recruitment drive was the 2025 intake (advert issued 14 September 2025; shortlists released 21–24 October 2025; interviews held November–December 2025). As of 13 September 2026, the Ministry of Defence has not published an advert for a new 2026 recruitment exercise. Envanter Media checks mod.go.ke and updates this page as soon as that changes.

There is no separate “Kenya Army recruitment” process – the Army recruits jointly with the Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy under a single Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) exercise. No new intake has been announced for 2026; the last cycle ran September-December 2025. Requirements and application steps are identical to the wider KDF process covered across this guide.

Kenya Army Recruitment Is a KDF-Wide Process

The Kenya Army does not run its own independent recruitment drive or portal. Under the 2025 cycle, General Duty Recruits and Defence Forces Constables were recruited by joint teams drawn from the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy, visiting the same itinerant centres nationwide between 13 and 25 October 2025. Officer categories – GSO Cadets and Specialist Officers – applied through the single online portal at recruit.mod.go.ke, with branch assignment (Army, Air Force or Navy) decided during training and posting, not at the application stage.

Requirements for Army-Track Categories

  • General Duty Recruit: minimum mean grade D (plain) in KCSE, aged 18-26.
  • GSO Cadet (Regular/Graduate): minimum mean grade B (plain) in KCSE with C+ in English, Mathematics and one science, aged 18-26.
  • Specialist Officer: Bachelor’s degree, professional registration where applicable, 2 years’ experience, aged up to 30.
  • Common physical standard: minimum height 1.60 m (men) / 1.52 m (women); minimum weight 54.55 kg (men) / 50.00 kg (women); BMI below 30. Full detail in KDF Recruitment Requirements.

How to Apply

Follow the same steps as any KDF category: confirm the advert on mod.go.ke, prepare your documents, and either apply online (officer/tradesmen categories) or attend your county’s recruitment centre (General Duty Recruits). Full walkthrough: How to Apply for KDF Recruitment.

KDF recruitment is completely free. The Ministry of Defence states that no applicant is required to pay anyone, at any stage, to secure a recruitment slot. Bribery or any attempt to influence the process is a criminal offence. Report suspected fraud to the nearest police station, military camp, or the KDF hotlines 0726419706 / 0726419709.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a separate Kenya Army recruitment portal?

No. The Army recruits through the same joint KDF process and portal (recruit.mod.go.ke) as the Air Force and Navy.

What is the minimum requirement for Kenya Army General Duty Recruit?

A minimum mean grade of D (plain) in KCSE, aged 18-26, meeting the standard KDF physical requirements.

Can I choose to join the Army specifically?

Branch assignment happens during KDF training and posting rather than at the point of application – the recruitment process itself is joint across Army, Air Force and Navy.

Is Kenya Army recruiting in 2026?

No new KDF intake, including for the Army, has been announced as of 13 September 2026.
