Status: The last completed recruitment drive was the 2025 intake (advert issued 14 September 2025; shortlists released 21–24 October 2025; interviews held November–December 2025). As of 13 September 2026, the Ministry of Defence has not published an advert for a new 2026 recruitment exercise. Envanter Media checks mod.go.ke and updates this page as soon as that changes.

There is no separate “Kenya Air Force recruitment” process – the Air Force recruits jointly with the Kenya Army and Kenya Navy under a single Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) exercise. No new intake has been announced for 2026; the last cycle ran September 2025-August 2026 (training included). Requirements and application steps are identical to the wider KDF process.

Kenya Air Force Recruitment Is a KDF-Wide Process

Like the Army and Navy, the Kenya Air Force does not run an independent recruitment drive. General Duty Recruits and Defence Forces Constables are recruited by joint teams drawn from all three services at the same itinerant centres nationwide. Officer categories – GSO Cadets and Specialist Officers, including technical roles relevant to aviation (engineering, ICT, and related disciplines) – apply through the single online portal at recruit.mod.go.ke. Branch assignment to the Air Force specifically happens during training and posting, not at the application stage.

Requirements

General Duty Recruit: minimum mean grade D (plain) in KCSE, aged 18-26.
GSO Cadet (Regular/Graduate): minimum mean grade B (plain) in KCSE with C+ in English, Mathematics and one science, aged 18-26.
Specialist Officer (engineering, ICT and other technical fields relevant to air operations): Bachelor’s degree, professional registration where applicable, 2 years’ experience, aged up to 30.
Common physical standard: minimum height 1.60 m (men) / 1.52 m (women); minimum weight 54.55 kg (men) / 50.00 kg (women); BMI below 30. Full detail in KDF Recruitment Requirements.

Training

General Duty Recruits complete the standard 7-month Basic Military Training before service-specific posting. See KDF Training for what that involves.

How to Apply

KDF recruitment is completely free. The Ministry of Defence states that no applicant is required to pay anyone, at any stage, to secure a recruitment slot.
