Is KDF Recruitment Open in 2026?

Not currently. KDF recruitment runs in cycles set by the Ministry of Defence “in accordance with the requirements and timelines determined by the Ministry,” per its own FAQ — there is no fixed annual calendar. The 2025 cycle is the most recent completed exercise. As of 13 September 2026, no advert for a 2026 intake has appeared on the Ministry’s official channels. KDF Recruitment Categories

• GSO Cadets – Regular: mean grade B (plain) in KCSE with C+ in English, Mathematics and one science subject; 3-year training leading to a BSc in Defence and Security Studies.
• GSO Cadets – Graduate: same minimum KCSE plus a Bachelor’s degree in an eligible discipline; 15-month training.
• Specialist Officers: Bachelor’s degree plus relevant professional registration and at least 2 years’ practising experience; 6-month training. Chaplains/Imams are exempt from the degree requirement but need a minimum C+ in KCSE.
• General Duty Recruits: minimum mean grade D (plain) in KCSE; NYS graduates who meet the general conditions get an added advantage.
• Tradesmen/Women: Diploma holders need a C (plain) in KCSE plus a relevant diploma; Certificate holders need a D+ (plus) in KCSE plus a certificate or Government Trade Test Grade II.
• Defence Forces Constables: reserved for retired KDF service members (aged 30-55, minimum 9 years’ service, “Good” discharge rating) or retired NYS personnel (aged 35-45, “Good” discharge rating).

In the 2025 cycle, GSO Cadets, Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/Women applied online at recruit.mod.go.ke.
