What Is HAVELSAN ARTEMİS? Air Traffic Control Simulator

What is HAVELSAN ARTEMİS? ARTEMİS is the air traffic control training simulator developed by HAVELSAN for training air traffic controllers. Developed with 100 percent domestic and national capabilities, the system brings tower control, approach radar and en-route radar training under one roof. This article explains what ARTEMİS is and what it consists of, based on official sources.
For HAVELSAN’s pilot-side simulators, see our articles on the 12 civil simulators for Turkish Airlines and the HÜRJET simulator.
What does ARTEMİS do?
Before starting their duties in the field, air traffic controllers need a training environment where they can safely experience dense traffic, bad weather and emergency scenarios. ARTEMİS is designed to prepare controllers for all types of situations; with its reliable, scalable and configurable structure, it provides realistic training in any conditions and any airspace.
Four main components
ARTEMİS consists of four main components: a tower control simulator, a radar simulator, a pilot role simulator and an exercise station. The tower simulator provides training in managing aerodrome traffic in a three-dimensional visual environment, while the radar simulator supports approach and en-route radar positions. The pilot role simulator plays the radio communications of the aircraft in the scenario, and voice communication simulation is part of the training.
Scenario and airspace design
The exercise preparation station allows an airspace to be designed from scratch, or existing airspace data to be imported from standard databases such as ARINC and AIXM. The system includes selectable digital maps featuring airways, air corridors, navigation aids (NAVAIDs) and minimum radar vectoring altitudes (MRVAs).

Why it matters
As air traffic grows, controller-training capacity becomes critical. ARTEMİS enables this training to be carried out with a national simulator, without external dependency; it also completes HAVELSAN’s civil aviation simulation chain, stretching from pilot training to controller training.
