HAVELSAN GENESIS is the first naval combat management system Turkey developed with indigenous means. What is GENESIS?

A combat management system (CMS) is the central software that unifies a warship’s radar, sonar, electronic-warfare and weapon systems under a single command-and-control layer. GENESIS is the first Turkish solution to perform this function with indigenous software. It processes sensor data, classifies targets and presents the command team with a common tactical picture.

What does GENESIS do?

GENESIS’s core task is to shorten decision time by integrating the ship’s different subsystems. An air contact from the radar is evaluated instantly through the system; the threat is prioritised and a suitable weapon or countermeasure option is offered to the operator. Management is thus carried out over a single tactical picture instead of scattered displays.

Which ships use it?

GENESIS was first used in the modernisation of the Turkish Navy’s G-class (Gabya) frigates. That project is regarded as a turning point, as it replaced a foreign combat management system with an indigenous one. The later ADVENT system, with its network-centric architecture, is effectively the successor to GENESIS.

Why does it matter?

A combat management system is described as the “brain” of a warship. Having this software be indigenous both reduces external dependence and allows the system to be updated freely as needs change. GENESIS was the first concrete step in Turkey gaining software sovereignty on its naval platforms.

The relationship between GENESIS and ADVENT
