Arrow 3: Exo-Atmospheric Ballistic Defense — First Export to Germany

Arrow 3 is IAI and Boeing’s exo-atmospheric ballistic missile defense system with a 2,400+ km engagement envelope at 100+ km altitude. Germany purchased it for €4 billion in October 2023 — the first exo-atmospheric defense system ever delivered to a non-Israeli NATO ally.
Exo-Atmospheric Intercept
Arrow 3 destroys ballistic missiles in the exosphere before they enter their terminal descent phase. For nuclear, biological, or chemical-armed threats, high-altitude intercept is far preferable to engagement near population centers.
Germany’s Decision
Germany spent €4 billion on Arrow 3 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; first delivery was October 2023. April 2024 saw Arrow 3’s first real combat engagement during Iran’s strike against Israel.

Türk Muadili
Turkey has no exo-atmospheric ballistic defense layer. SİPER targets the medium-altitude band; the exo-atmospheric layer is Turkey’s most critical air defense gap.
