K200 KIFV: Still Serving After 40 Years — Exported to Malaysia

The K200 KIFV has served South Korea since 1985. Hanwha Aerospace handles modernization and ammunition packages. 460 units were exported to Malaysia (KIFV-M); K21 is now replacing it gradually.
Why a 40-Year Platform Remains Relevant
The K200’s simple aluminum hull keeps maintenance cycles short and costs low. It remains a cost-effective solution for reserve forces and combat support units while the K21 transition proceeds.
Malaysia Export
Malaysia ordered 460 KIFV-M in the 1990s — one of South Korea’s first major defense export programs. Malaysia is now replacing them with PARS AV8, strengthening defense ties with Turkey in the process.
