Spain is the first export customer for a Turkish-built jet — and the first NATO and EU air force to order one. The deal replaces Spain’s ageing F-5M trainers and is structured around Airbus as Spanish prime contractor.

Airbus’s role
TUSAŞ builds the aircraft; Airbus is co-producer and the prime contractor on the Spanish side. Some components will be made by Spanish suppliers, and the programme is expected to create around 2,500 jobs, according to Anadolu Agency. While the first 21 aircraft are delivered, Airbus will finalise the avionics package that will eventually equip all 30; the aircraft will be brought to that standard in Spain.
What the package includes
According to the SSB statement relayed by TSKGV, the €2.6 billion package covers 30 aircraft, an integrated training architecture, ground-based simulation and training systems, maintenance infrastructure and long-term support. Spain’s government approval of October 2025 allows for up to 45 aircraft — 15 of them options; if exercised, the timeline will extend. Signatories in Madrid included SSB President Haluk Görgün, Spain’s Director General of Armament Admiral Aniceto Rosique, Airbus Defence and Space’s Jean Brice Dumont and TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu.
