Front-Fuselage Assembly Begins on Türkiye’s First Eurofighter Typhoon

BAE Systems has announced that assembly of the front fuselage for Türkiye’s first Eurofighter Typhoon has begun at its Samlesbury site. The company shared the update on X on 6 November 2026, after a Turkish Air Force delegation visited the facility.
The announcement does not change the contract or add a new order; it documents a visible production milestone inside a timeline that was already public. What it does is move the programme from general statements that “production has started” to a specific structural unit taking shape on the line.
What was shown at Samlesbury
BAE Systems’ Türkiye vice-president, Dave Ward, called it “an exciting moment for the programme.” According to the company, the visiting Turkish delegation reviewed progress on the front fuselage of the first Turkish-contract Typhoon on the assembly line at Samlesbury, Lancashire.
The front fuselage houses the nose radome, cockpit and forward avionics bays. Under the Eurofighter consortium’s work-share, this section is built in the UK, while the centre fuselage is manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space in Germany. Final assembly of the Turkish aircraft is planned for BAE’s Warton site, also in Lancashire.
Why this update matters
BAE Systems first confirmed that production for Türkiye had started back on 25 March 2026, in the announcement of a training and support contract, and again in its half-year results published on 29–30 July 2026. Between those statements and today, no specific visual confirmation of physical progress had been made public.
The 6 November update is therefore not a new fact about the programme’s existence, but the first direct, photographed confirmation of where the build physically stands. A delegation-level visit also signals that both governments are tracking the programme closely rather than leaving it to routine contractor updates.
Programme background
The UK-Türkiye process moved in two steps. On 23 July 2025, at the IDEF exhibition in Istanbul, then-Defence Minister Yaşar Güler and UK Defence Secretary John Healey signed a memorandum of understanding. The agreement was finalised on 27 October 2025 in Ankara by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and then-Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
According to Türkiye Today, the contract covering aircraft, munitions and mission equipment is worth about £5.4bn ($7.2bn); the UK government has separately put the total potential programme value, including training and support, at up to £8bn. The deal makes Türkiye the Typhoon programme’s tenth operator. First delivery is planned for 2030, and BAE says more than a third of every Typhoon is built in the UK.
A possible second batch, and a separate option
As Envanter Medya reported on 5 November 2026, the Eurofighter consortium’s slide at the International Fighter Conference in Munich listed a potential second batch of 24 new-build Typhoons for Türkiye, alongside similar opportunities for Saudi Arabia and Austria. These figures describe potential demand, not a signed order, and have not been officially confirmed.
Separately, Türkiye has reportedly been evaluating second-hand Typhoons from Qatar and Oman — a track that is independent of the 20-aircraft new-build order and unrelated to today’s Samlesbury update.
What remains unconfirmed
- The exact date the front-fuselage assembly began, relative to the delegation’s visit
- The overall completion percentage of the first aircraft on the line
- A year-by-year delivery breakdown for the 20-aircraft order (press reports of a 2030-2032 split have not been officially confirmed by BAE Systems)
