Barak 8 ER: India-Israel Joint SAM — Tested in Operation Sindoor

Barak 8 ER is IAI and India’s DRDO joint development — a two-stage solid-fuel 70–150 km air defense system. Integrated on Indian Navy destroyer/corvettes and deployed as MR-SAM by the Air Force. Combat engagement reported during Operation Sindoor (May 2025).
Technology Partnership Model
IAI contributed radar and guidance; DRDO handled propulsion and integration. India is a true technology partner, not just a customer — the most concrete product of the India-Israel defense partnership begun 25 years ago.
Naval and Land Versions
MF-STAR-equipped Kolkata-class destroyers and Kamorta-class corvettes carry the naval Barak 8. The MR-SAM land version is fielded by the Indian Air Force.

Türk Muadili
Turkey’s ROKETSAN SİPER targets 100+ km, comparable to Barak 8 ER’s upper range. The TF-2000 destroyer naval air defense selection is ongoing; this decision may determine Barak 8’s potential role with Turkey.
