What Indigenous Systems Are on TCG Yıldırım (F-243)?
TCG Yıldırım (F-243) is a member of the Yavuz-class frigate (MEKO 200 TN Track I) in Turkish Naval Forces service. Built/procured via Gölcük Naval Shipyard, it entered the inventory on 1989. The final Yavuz-class ship, Yıldırım was built at Gölcük Naval Shipyard; two of the class’s four ships being built in Turkey illustrates the scale of shipbuilding experience gained by the late 1980s.

SSB’s role
Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) acts as the procurement authority and coordinator for naval platforms: it sets requirements, manages contracts and oversees integration of domestic subcontractors (ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, ROKETSAN, STM, TÜBİTAK). The physical construction is carried out by the prime contractor shipyard and the systems are developed by the respective defence companies — SSB does not itself build the ship.
