What Indigenous Systems Are on TCG Gelibolu (F-493)?
TCG Gelibolu (F-493) is a member of the Gabya-class frigate (ex-Oliver Hazard Perry) in Turkish Naval Forces service. Built/procured via USA — GENESIS modernisation in Turkey, it entered the inventory on 22 July 1999 (transferred from the US). The fourth Gabya-class ship, Gelibolu regularly serves in NATO task groups in the Mediterranean; GENESIS gave it a hybrid architecture in which US-origin hardware is managed by Turkish software.

SSB’s role
Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) acts as the procurement authority and coordinator for naval platforms: it sets requirements, manages contracts and oversees integration of domestic subcontractors (ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, ROKETSAN, STM, TÜBİTAK). The physical construction is carried out by the prime contractor shipyard and the systems are developed by the respective defence companies — SSB does not itself build the ship.
