ASELSAN’s air-defence systems form the electronic backbone of Turkey’s layered air-defence architecture. In these systems ASELSAN mostly provides the radar, fire-control and command-and-control components, while the missile side is largely ROKETSAN’s. Below we look at ASELSAN’s role by layer.

ASELSAN’s role in layered air defence

Air defence is a layered architecture in which different systems work together at low, medium and high altitude. In the HİSAR family (low/medium altitude) and the SİPER systems developed for high altitude, ASELSAN plays a critical role in radar, seeker and command-and-control electronics. In this division of labour, missiles and munitions are mostly ROKETSAN’s responsibility.

Gun-based and close-in air defence

In gun-based air defence, the KORKUT (35 mm) system and, for naval platforms, the GÖKDENİZ close-in weapon system stand out. In these systems, ASELSAN’s radar and fire-control capability provides effective defence against fast, low targets (UAVs, rockets, projectiles). Command-and-control systems combine all layers into a single picture.

Frequently asked questions

What does ASELSAN produce in air defence?

ASELSAN produces the radar, fire-control and command-and-control electronics of air-defence systems; the missile side is mostly ROKETSAN’s.

What is ASELSAN’s role in HİSAR and SİPER?

ASELSAN provides the radar, seeker and command-and-control electronics; missiles and munitions are largely ROKETSAN’s.

What is KORKUT?

KORKUT is ASELSAN’s 35 mm gun-based air-defence system supported by its radar and fire control.

What does GÖKDENİZ do?

GÖKDENİZ is a close-in weapon system that protects ships against fast, low air threats.
