What is EYDEP? Industrial Competence Assessment Program in Turkey’s Defense Industry

ANKARA – The Industrial Competence Assessment and Support Program (EYDEP), run by Turkey’s Defense Industry Presidency (SSB), stands out as a critical evaluation system designed to measure and develop the institutional and technical capacities of companies operating in the defense, aviation and space sectors.
WHAT IS EYDEP?
EYDEP is a program that analyzes companies’ production, design and engineering capabilities within specific criteria, revealing their sectoral maturity levels. Within the program, companies are evaluated and scored in different categories, and their development areas are identified.
This system also serves as a “gateway” for companies wishing to operate in the defense industry.
HOW ARE COMPANIES EVALUATED?
Under EYDEP, companies are assessed in areas such as:
- Production
- Design
- Software
- System integration
Based on the evaluation, companies receive A, B or C-level competence certificates. These levels determine the companies’ position in the sector and capacity to participate in projects.
ADVANTAGES OF EYDEP
The program offers significant advantages to companies:
- Opportunity to take part in defense industry projects
- Entry into the approved supplier list of prime contractors
- Development of production and quality processes compliant with international standards
- Gaining institutional competence in tender processes
Particularly A-level companies can reach a level where they can directly participate in projects as prime contractors.
STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE FOR THE SECTOR
EYDEP not only evaluates companies but also supports their development. The program provides:
- Training
- Consultancy
- Mentoring
- Certification
These supports aim to elevate companies to a higher level.
From this perspective, EYDEP is considered one of the important tools of Turkey’s strategy to create a domestic and strong supply chain in the defense industry.
