Turkish defense exports reach $6.3 billion in first eight months

Turkey’s defense and aerospace exports reached $511.4 million in August, Defence Industry Agency (SSB) President Prof. Dr. Haluk Gorgun announced, bringing the cumulative figure for the first eight months of 2026 to $6.3 billion.
That eight-month total marks a 16.2 percent increase over the same period of 2025. On a rolling twelve-month basis, exports stand at $10.9 billion, a 29.3 percent expansion.
Rolling total sits just below the $11 billion mark
The twelve-month figure remains marginally below the $11 billion threshold the sector crossed for the first time in early July. Analysts generally treat the rolling total as the more reliable indicator, since deliveries of large platforms tend to cluster in particular months and distort single-month readings.
If the current pace holds through the final four months of the year, 2026 is on course to set a record for the sector. Turkish defense and aerospace exports closed 2025 at roughly $8.5 billion.
Engineering capacity behind the numbers
Gorgun framed the result as evidence of accumulated technical capability rather than a single contract cycle. “The export performance we have reached today is a strong indicator of our engineering competence, our production capability and our growing effectiveness in international markets,” he said.
He thanked the companies, engineers, technicians and other stakeholders contributing to the sector’s output.
What drives the basket
Unmanned aerial systems, armored land vehicles, missiles and munitions, electronic warfare and communications equipment make up the bulk of Turkish defense exports. Alongside direct product sales, Turkish manufacturers increasingly rely on co-production arrangements, technology transfer packages and local assembly lines, which tie buyer countries into longer commercial relationships than a one-off sale would.
Civil aviation work packages also feed the total. Airframe and engine components supplied by Turkish firms to international aircraft manufacturers form a technology-intensive, non-military line within the export basket.
The agency publishes monthly export data at the start of each month for the preceding period. September figures are due in early October.
