TCG Gökova (F-496) is a member of the Gabya-class frigate (ex-Oliver Hazard Perry) in Turkish Naval Forces service. Built/procured via USA — GENESIS modernisation in Turkey, it entered the inventory on 11 April 2002 (transferred from the US). After serving in the US Navy as USS Samuel Eliot Morison, Gökova was transferred to Turkey in 2002; the GENESIS modernisation gave it an entirely different combat architecture in its second life.

SSB’s role
Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) acts as the procurement authority and coordinator for naval platforms: it sets requirements, manages contracts and oversees integration of domestic subcontractors (ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, ROKETSAN, STM, TÜBİTAK). The physical construction is carried out by the prime contractor shipyard and the systems are developed by the respective defence companies — SSB does not itself build the ship.
