What Is the KGK-84? ASELSAN’s MK-84 Wing Kit and Its 100 km Range

The KGK-84 is an ASELSAN wing-and-guidance kit that turns a 2,000-lb MK-84 free-fall bomb into a long-range guided weapon. According to an ASELSAN press release, the kit has completed its first qualification range firing from an F-16 at the Sinop test range. The company says it can reach 100 km when released from an F-16.

What is the KGK-84 and what does it do?
A standard MK-84 follows a ballistic path once released. The KGK-84 changes that. Folding wings let the bomb glide instead of dropping, and an integrated inertial navigation system (INS) with GPS steers it along pre-loaded waypoints to the target. The aircraft can release it far from the target without approaching it.
ASELSAN says the kit fits 2,000-lb class MK-84, MK-84-T, NEB and NEB-T bombs. The blast and fragmentation effect comes from the bomb body itself; the kit adds guidance and range.
Key specifications
- Range: 100 km from an F-16 (per ASELSAN). Information published at EDEX 2025 ties the figure to a 40,000 ft release, with a minimum release altitude of 10,000 ft. EDR Magazine reports that the original configuration did not reach 100 km; the upgraded version did.
- Guidance: Integrated INS/GNSS, waypoint following.
- Anti-jamming: CRPA anti-jam antenna. EDR reports an 8-channel CRPA at the rear of the bomb.
- Accuracy: ASELSAN lists a CEP of under 10 metres (EDR Magazine).
- Mass and size: About 1,098 kg with the kit; 4,040 mm long, 940 mm in diameter (EDR Magazine).
- Targets: Static targets. Impact angle can be selected before release.
- Interface: MIL-STD-1760 compatible.
- Conditions: All-weather, day and night.
Test history
In December 2025, Haluk Görgün, head of Türkiye’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), announced the first F-16 drop test with a target and shared the video. The bomb followed preset waypoints and hit its target directly. Defence Industry Europe described the target as a defined maritime target. ASELSAN CEO Ahmet Akyol called the kit a game-changer for its strike power. The range achieved in that test was not disclosed.
The current release describes the next step: the first qualification range firing from an F-16 at Sinop. Qualification is the formal stage that shows a system meets its specification before delivery. The release does not give the date or the measured range.
Orders, deliveries and inventory
There is no public information on orders, deliveries or entry into service. A range firing and a qualification are not the same as production or inventory, and those stages should be reported separately. EDR Magazine says the next planned test is on a JF-17, which points to interest from export platforms.
Why it matters for the region
For air forces that already hold large stocks of MK-84 bombs, a kit is a cheaper route to precision and standoff range than buying new guided bombs. The glide design has no motor, which keeps the kit simple. Standoff release lets aircrews stay outside the engagement range of many air-defence systems. The KGK-84 sits in the same broad class as other 2,000-lb guidance kits, but a fair comparison needs data published under the same conditions, which does not yet exist for this kit.
