K30 Biho: Hanwha’s Gun-Missile Hybrid Air Defense System

The K30 Biho is Hanwha Aerospace’s self-propelled SHORAD system combining a twin 30mm cannon with KP-SAM Shingung short-range missiles on a single platform. It provides layered coverage against drones, helicopters, and low-flying aircraft.
Value of the Hybrid Approach
Ukraine proved reliance on a single engagement type creates gaps. Biho applies a two-layer response: 30mm for economic drone engagement, Shingung missiles for high-value platform threats. This preserves interceptor stocks while widening coverage.
Drone Defense Economics
Firing expensive missiles at cheap kamikaze drones creates unfavorable cost exchange. Biho’s 30mm gun engages these economically, reserving Shingung rounds for high-priority targets.

Türk Muadili
Turkey’s ASELSAN KORKUT fills the gun-based role with a 35mm Oerlikon; ATILGAN covers the missile role on a separate platform. The K30 Biho merges both on one chassis — a configuration Turkey has not yet matched.
