Heron TP (Eitan): Germany and India’s Strategic Reconnaissance UAV

The IAI Heron TP operates at 45,000 ft — above commercial traffic — for 36 hours with a 2,700 kg sensor payload. Germany approved 140 units; India ordered more after Operation Sindoor. It is the largest MALE+ class platform by payload capacity.
Beyond the MALE Ceiling
Standard MALE UAVs operate at 10,000–15,000 ft. Heron TP reaches 45,000 ft — above most commercial traffic, outside many air defense engagement envelopes, and scanning wider ground swaths.
Germany and India
Germany’s Bundestag approved 140 units (non-armed configuration). India used Heron UAVs in Operation Sindoor and placed additional orders afterward.

Türk Muadili
BAYKAR Akıncı with its 40,000 ft ceiling and standard weapons integration is the closest Turkish counterpart. Turkey is now a competitor in this category, not a customer.
