The modular architecture

The Boxer’s mission-module concept was designed in response to Bundeswehr experience in Bosnia and Kosovo, where commanders found themselves locked into the configuration of whatever vehicle they had on the ground. The RCH 155 self-propelled howitzer

The Boxer + 155 mm gun combination — designated RCH 155 — has become an unexpected export success. The system mates a fully automated, unmanned 155 mm L/52 turret to the Boxer drive module, providing the firepower of a PzH 2000 in a wheeled, faster, lighter platform with a two-person crew. Bundeswehr ordered 80 vehicles in 2024 and Ukraine has been receiving deliveries since 2024. The UK is evaluating RCH 155 for the Mobile Fires Platform (though the K9 was selected).

The UK production line

Britain’s Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) program is the largest Boxer customer to date. RBSL (Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land), a UK joint venture, opened a new Boxer production line at Telford and Stockport in 2023. The first UK-built Boxers entered British Army service in 2025; deliveries of the full 623-vehicle order are scheduled for completion by 2032.
