The UAE’s EDGE Group unveiled VORTEX-E at UMEX 2026, a fully autonomous kinetic counter-drone interceptor designed for rapid threat neutralization. With a maximum speed of 350 km/h and engagement range of 24 kilometers, VORTEX-E employs direct-impact kinetic strikes rather than fragmentation warheads, making it suitable for urban environments and civilian-sensitive areas. The system integrates AI-enabled camera tracking with radar and electro-optical sensors for target recognition in GPS-denied conditions. Operating in both autonomous and manual control modes, VORTEX-E supports coordinated swarm deployment for layered defense. The platform’s non-explosive kinetic approach represents a significant advancement in counter-unmanned systems, minimizing collateral damage while maintaining precision interception capability. EDGE indicated operational deployment expected within 18 months.
