Unirobotics pairs TRAKON remote weapon stations with Echodyne radars for counter-drone role
Show Article Summary

Turkish remote weapon station maker Unirobotics, a subsidiary of CANiK parent Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS), is repositioning its TRAKON turret family as a counter-UAS effector, a segment where NATO militaries are looking for cheaper kinetic options than missile-based air defence. According to TurDef, the company tested a TRAKON LITE fitted with a 7.62 mm Gatling gun firing more than 3,000 rounds per minute against mini and micro UAV targets in January 2026.

US radar, Turkish turret

Detection comes from the Echoguard radar made by Echodyne of the United States, which Unirobotics has integrated on both the TRAKON LITE and the larger TRAKON 30. The full counter-UAS configuration under development is built around TRAKON 30 carrying the 30×113 mm VENOM LR revolver cannon from AEI Systems, with Echodyne’s Echoguard and Echoshield MESA radars for detection and tracking. Proximity-fuzed and pellet-type ammunition are being evaluated for the gun. An earlier demonstration used the naval TRAKON TARGAN with a 12.7 mm M2 QCB against drones.

The approach mirrors what Rheinmetall’s Skynex and Northrop Grumman’s M230LF-based systems offer at the lower end of the air-defence stack, but with a cannon already proven on the British Army’s DVD 2026 circuit and a radar family in service with US customers.

Product line and reference order

Founded in May 2020 in Istanbul and led by general manager Ömür Baç, Unirobotics offers four TRAKON variants: CREW, a stabilised mount without electro-optics for small boats and special operations; LITE for small-calibre weapons with target tracking; TARGAN, a naval station with its own electro-optics and inertial navigation; and TRAKON 30 for the VENOM LR cannon. Shephard reported in July 2023 that two Hisar-class offshore patrol vessels under construction for Turkish state shipyard ASFAT would each receive two TRAKON TARGAN stations with CANiK 12.7 mm guns, 200 ready rounds and an Mk19 grenade launcher option.

Exhibitions in 2026

The company listed SAHA EXPO in Istanbul (5-9 May), the EFES exercise (16-21 May) and Eurosatory in Paris (15-19 June) on its 2026 calendar. A CANiK-branded remote control console carrying the Unirobotics logo was also shown at MSPO 2026 in Kielce, Poland, in September.

Gaps in the public record

No verified public figures were found for Unirobotics’ headcount, revenue, export contracts or the serial production status of TRAKON 30.
