Japan Begins Flight Tests of EC-2 Electronic Warfare Aircraft

Japan’s Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) announced on July 15, 2026, the start of the official flight-test campaign for the Kawasaki EC-2 stand-off electronic warfare aircraft at Gifu Air Base.
Based on the Kawasaki C-2 transport airframe, EC-2 is designed to remotely disrupt enemy radar and communications systems as part of Japan’s program to strengthen its electronic warfare capability.
The test campaign covers verification of the aircraft’s sensor and electronic warfare suite across different flight conditions. An operational delivery timeline has not been officially announced.
