What is KAPGAN?

KAPGAN is designed as a heavier-class unmanned ground vehicle. Thanks to its larger and more robust structure, it is positioned to carry heavier mission payloads and operate in more demanding terrain conditions. This makes the vehicle particularly suitable for missions requiring fire support, heavy logistics and endurance.

KAPGAN vs BARKAN

KAPGAN and BARKAN are different classes of the same autonomous ground-vehicle family. The key distinction is weight and capacity: while BARKAN is a more agile and rapidly deployable platform, KAPGAN is designed to carry heavier loads and more powerful mission equipment. Considered together, the two vehicles form a complementary pair covering different mission needs.

Autonomy and HAVELSAN’s role

In KAPGAN too, HAVELSAN’s core contribution is the autonomy software that makes the vehicle “intelligent”. Capabilities such as autonomous navigation, mission planning, obstacle avoidance and communication with the command centre fall within this scope. HAVELSAN is not a platform manufacturer but the provider of the software layer that makes these vehicles autonomous.

KAPGAN within the swarm

KAPGAN is conceived as part of a swarm managed from a single command centre, together with BARKAN and other unmanned vehicles, in HAVELSAN’s digital-troop vision. In this structure, heavier-class vehicles take on missions requiring force and endurance, while lighter vehicles come to the fore in missions requiring reconnaissance and agility.
