CAESAR 8×8: France’s Wheeled Artillery — Battle-Tested in Ukraine

The CAESAR 8×8 is KNDS’s 155mm/52-cal self-propelled howitzer on a Tatra T-815 8×8 truck chassis. With 70 km range, 100 km/h road speed, and C-130 air-transportability, it defines the global standard for wheeled artillery.
Wheeled Artillery Advantage
CAESAR offers 100 km/h road speed, C-130 air transport, and standard bridge compatibility versus heavier tracked rivals. Shoot-and-scoot repositioning takes under 2 minutes.
Ukraine Lessons
French-donated CAESARs were used against Russian command nodes and logistics in Ukraine. Their shoot-and-scoot speed was the most praised attribute. Combat experience is feeding back into the next-generation design.

Türk Muadili
Turkey’s T-155 Fırtına uses the same 155mm/52-cal gun on a tracked chassis. CAESAR is lighter, faster, and air-transportable; Fırtına leads on rough-terrain endurance. Turkey lacks a serial-production wheeled 155mm equivalent.
