ASELSAN Signs EUR 2.46 Billion Contract With Turkey’s SSB for Hybrid Air Defense Systems

ASELSAN, Turkey’s largest defense electronics manufacturer, disclosed on October 5, 2026 that it signed contracts worth a combined EUR 2.46 billion with the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) for the supply of Hybrid Air Defense Systems. The filing, submitted to Turkey’s Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) at 09:18 local time, lists the business relationship’s start date as the same day.
What the Filing Discloses
The disclosure follows ASELSAN’s standard “New Business Relation” format. It names SSB as the counterparty and states the contract covers Hybrid Air Defense Systems procurement. The company said the deal would have a positive effect on revenue but did not disclose a delivery schedule, unit quantities, or which military branch would receive the systems.
The filing also quantifies how central SSB is to ASELSAN’s finances: the agency accounted for 30.6 percent of net sales in the company’s latest income statement and 37.8 percent of trade receivables on its latest balance sheet. That makes SSB less a single customer than a structural partner shaping ASELSAN’s revenue base.
What “Hybrid” Air Defense Typically Means
ASELSAN’s filing does not define the technical scope of “hybrid air defense systems.” In industry usage, the term generally describes architectures that integrate radar, command-and-control, and effector layers across multiple engagement ranges under one framework, sometimes combining kinetic interceptors with non-kinetic layers such as electronic warfare or directed energy. Because the company has not detailed the contract’s subsystems, this remains a general industry description rather than a confirmed specification.
A Week of Stacked Contracts
The EUR 2.46 billion deal was the largest in a string of disclosures ASELSAN made in the first week of October. On October 1, the company reported an additional EUR 1.0085 billion contract with SSB for ongoing serial production of Long-Range Air Defense Systems. On October 2, it disclosed a EUR 488.5 million export contract for air defense systems with an undisclosed foreign end-user. Combined with the October 5 hybrid air defense deal, ASELSAN’s air-defense-related disclosures over just four days totaled roughly EUR 4 billion.
The company followed with two more disclosures the same week: a USD 157.9 million export contract on October 6 covering electronic warfare, electro-optic, and communications systems, and a USD 195 million radar systems contract with SSB on October 7. Taken together, the cluster shows ASELSAN expanding simultaneously on domestic procurement and export fronts.
What It Means for Turkey’s Air Defense Architecture
Turkey has spent recent years building a layered air and missile defense architecture through the HİSAR family of short-to-medium-range systems and the SİPER long-range program. SSB President Haluk Görgün has previously said roughly a thousand companies contribute to the SİPER supply ecosystem. A contract of this size could signal that this layered architecture is moving further into serial production and integration, though ASELSAN’s KAP filing does not explicitly link the new agreement to SİPER or HİSAR.
Within NATO, strengthening air defense capacity has become a priority as drone and cruise-missile threats have grown more prominent along the alliance’s eastern and southern flanks. A large-scale, domestically sourced contract of this kind both deepens Turkey’s own supply chain and adds to ASELSAN’s track record when pitching air defense systems to export customers.
What Comes Next
ASELSAN has not yet disclosed a delivery timeline for the systems covered by the contract or specified which SSB program they fall under. The company is scheduled to publish its financial results for the July–September 2026 quarter on October 27, 2026, which could offer the first concrete indication of how the new contract affects its order backlog.
