MKE’s Ninth DENİZHAN-76 Gun Delivered for MİLGEM Hull

MKE’s Ninth DENİZHAN-76 Gun Delivered for MİLGEM Hull
Show Article Summary

The ninth production unit of the DENİZHAN-76 naval gun, developed by Turkish state manufacturer MKE, has completed acceptance firing trials and been delivered for integration into the 11th ship built under Türkiye’s MİLGEM warship programme. The delivery was disclosed in the Presidency of Defence Industries’ (SSB) weekly activity bulletin covering 5–11 October 2026.

According to SSB, the DENİZHAN-76 unit successfully completed its acceptance firing and was sent to the relevant shipyard for integration onto the 11th MİLGEM-class hull. The bulletin listed the delivery alongside a series of other items supplied that week to the Land, Naval and Air Force Commands.

A 76mm indigenous gun, now on its ninth delivery

DENİZHAN-76 is MKE’s current entry in its family of 76mm automatic naval guns, designed for rapid engagement of both surface and air targets and fitted aboard Türkiye’s MİLGEM-class corvettes and frigates. Reaching a ninth accepted production unit signals that the gun has moved past a one-off delivery into a steady, repeatable production line running in parallel with the shipbuilding programme.

Acceptance firing is the final verification stage, confirming that a gun’s barrel, guidance and fire-control subsystems meet operational standards before the host ship enters naval service — one of the last checkpoints before a vessel is handed over to the fleet.

A growing MİLGEM fleet

MİLGEM is one of the flagship programmes through which Türkiye built a domestic warship design and construction capability largely from scratch. What began with the Ada-class corvettes has since expanded into the İstanbul-class frigates and export-oriented variants. SSB’s reference to an “11th ship” reflects the cumulative hull count across the programme’s different classes rather than a single class alone.

Equipping each new hull with indigenous subsystems such as DENİZHAN-76 is one part of a broader push to raise the programme’s domestic content. MİLGEM today sustains a wide network of Turkish suppliers spanning the hull, radar, combat-management system and weapon stations, with MKE, ASELSAN and HAVELSAN among the central contributors.

Why it matters

A naval gun clearing its acceptance firing might look like a modest news item on its own, but the steady, uninterrupted recurrence of such deliveries is the real test of a defence-industrial ecosystem. Türkiye’s ambition to expand its MİLGEM fleet, both for its own navy and for export customers, depends on subsystems like DENİZHAN-76 being produced on schedule and to a consistent quality standard.

Domestic production of a 76mm-class naval gun also moves Türkiye away from dependence on imports in this category and positions it as a potential supplier to allied and partner navies that need similar systems. MKE’s sustained output in this area gives future export discussions a concrete production track record to point to.

SSB’s bulletin does not specify which hull, by name, received this unit, nor which MİLGEM sub-class it belongs to; those details are expected to be clarified by the relevant authorities in due course.
