The goal is not simply more ships, but a production model that builds them faster and with less manpower.

Saronic, a global leader in autonomous surface-vessel production, brings operationally proven autonomy and a scalable manufacturing model. SHI, one of the world’s leading shipbuilders, brings decades of high-volume, cutting-edge shipbuilding and vessel-design experience. In short, one represents the “smart ship,” the other “many ships.”

Saronic’s appetite for growth completes the picture. The company’s multi-billion-dollar flagship yard, Port Alpha, will be built in Brownsville, Texas, and is expected to create thousands of jobs in the region; on top of that, Saronic is investing a further $300 million to expand capacity at its yard in Franklin, Louisiana. That scale signals that autonomous maritime systems have moved from niche experiment to an industrial-scale production category.

Saronic and the Unmanned Surface Vessel Race

Saronic has been one of the fastest-rising “next-generation” defence companies on the U.S. tech scene in recent years. Its autonomous surface vessels (USVs) are designed as low-cost, mass-deployable platforms for reconnaissance, surveillance and strike. Ukraine’s asymmetric successes with unmanned surface craft in the Black Sea showed the world the strategic value of the category, and the U.S. is now trying to translate that lesson into its own industrial base at scale.
