US Approves APKWS Precision Rocket Sale to Saudi Arabia

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) issued a Congressional notification on July 15, 2026, for the potential sale of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) to Saudi Arabia. APKWS is a low-cost guidance kit that converts unguided rockets into laser-guided precision munitions.
The notification is part of the standard Congressional review process; the deal is not finalized until the review period ends. APKWS aligns with Saudi Arabia’s search for low-cost countermeasures against Houthi drone and rocket threats along its Yemeni border.
The system can be fired from platforms such as the F-15 or from helicopters, offering a significantly lower cost per engagement than larger missiles.
