Meteor BVRAAM: Ramjet-Powered Beyond-Visual-Range Missile

Meteor is MBDA’s throttleable ducted ramjet (TDR) beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile with 200+ km range. Its ~60 km no-escape zone (NEZ) is 2–3× wider than AMRAAM, making it the leading BVR missile in current production.
The Ramjet Revolution
While solid-fuel rivals coast to terminal phase after motor burnout, Meteor’s TDR throttles fuel flow continuously, preserving maneuver energy all the way to intercept. This stretches the NEZ 2–3× versus AMRAAM.
Six Nations, One Missile
The UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Sweden launched a joint program in the late 1990s. Meteor now integrates with Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale, and Saab Gripen E. Turkey is negotiating Meteor as part of its Eurofighter package.

Türk Muadili
Turkey’s ROKETSAN Gökdoğan is the domestic BVRAAM candidate. It uses a solid-fuel motor and lacks Meteor’s ramjet NEZ advantage. Developing ramjet propulsion is a critical next step for Turkish BVR air superiority.
