Baykar, one of Turkey’s leading defense companies, has unveiled its new kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) named K2. During the flight conducted off Çanakkale’s Saros coast, multiple K2 platforms were seen moving together, demonstrating a swarm concept.
K2 kamikaze UAV revealed for the first time
According to the shared footage, K2:
- Conducted flights with multiple platforms simultaneously
- Performed missions in V-formation and arrow formation
- Operated in coordinated movement within the swarm concept
This development indicates that Turkey has entered a new phase in the kamikaze UAV field.
A new concept built on TB2 infrastructure
K2’s design draws attention with a body structure similar to the Bayraktar TB2. This approach:
- Reduces production costs
- Accelerates serial production
- Provides logistical advantages
It is also assessed that a different wing structure has been used in the new platform for higher speed.
High impact with a 200 kg warhead
Key technical features of K2:
- Approximately 800 kg takeoff weight
- 10 meter wingspan
- 200 kg warhead
This capacity makes K2 one of the heaviest and highest-impact kamikaze UAV systems in its class.
GNSS-independent operation capability
One of the biggest risks in modern combat environments is electronic warfare and GPS jamming systems.
For this issue, K2 reportedly features:
- GNSS-independent navigation infrastructure
- Flight capability resistant to electronic jamming
Combined reconnaissance and strike role
K2 is not just a kamikaze platform:
- Can perform reconnaissance while approaching the target
- Can stream imagery
- Has night-vision capability
This is an important feature distinguishing the platform from classical kamikaze UAVs.
Global trend: Ukraine war and kamikaze UAVs
In recent years, the Ukraine war in particular has increased the importance of the kamikaze UAV concept.
- Low cost – high impact
- Long-range strike capability
- Low radar signature
These advantages have brought such systems to the forefront. Iran’s Shahed series and Ukraine’s modified platforms are among the examples in this field.
Baykar targets new export success
According to experts, K2:
- Could be the new export product following TB2
- Could make a difference with the swarm UAV concept
- Could be used against strategic targets with its high-explosive capacity
Baykar’s existing production infrastructure provides a significant advantage in the serial production of this system.
